Terms and Conditions

Payment Methods:

Payment is welcome in Pounds Sterling, by cheque or bank transfer. We accept payments by PayPal if fees are met in total by the purchaser unless otherwise agreed. You must pay us the full price for the goods, together with delivery costs, any VAT and any amounts payable to us but excluding any deposit or advance that you may already have paid, by bank transfer or such other methods as we agree in writing, within 14 days after the date of the invoice or up to 30 days if stated on our invoice. If a sale depends on the issue of an export licence, payment must be made within 14 days after the issue of the export licence.  In all cases, items remain the property of John Underwood Antiquarian Books and payment is not deemed to have been made until we have received cleared funds representing the full amount. Only then will full legal title to the goods pass to you.

All statements by us as to the authenticity, attribution, description, date, age, provenance, title or condition of the goods constitute our judgement and opinion only and are not guaranteed by us. We do not accept any liability as a result of any changes in expert opinion (such as authorship of works or manuscripts or attribution of artist or maker) which may take place subsequent to the sale.

We are happy upon request to detail the condition of the book or item at the time of the sale and provide any information that we have about condition; we cannot be held responsible for any subsequent deterioration of the goods however it occurs, after the sale.

You are responsible for satisfying yourself as to any statements made by us as to the matters set out above.

We try to give accurate descriptions of the books and artefacts that we sell. If we describe a book or item incorrectly, it will be refunded in full if returned within 7 days of delivery, or 14 days for books or items posted to addresses outside the United Kingdom.

Purchases Conducted Online:

If you have concluded a transaction exclusively at a distance you are entitled to cancel the contract for the purchase of the book or item in question within 14 days, beginning with the day after the day the goods is collected/delivered. This right extends only to goods returned in the same condition in which they were sold.  You will be responsible for the costs of returning the item/s to us.

Shipping is charged at cost. We insure most items sent to customers at our own cost. In the event that we need to increase insurance cover, additional costs will be charged to the customer.

We usually send books or items within the UK by 1st Class Signed For service, or ParcelForce for heavy packages. Books for destinations outside of the United Kingdom are sent by Airmail using an International Tracked and Signed For service. We will send tracking details or proof of postage to customers if requested.
