SCHREINER, Olive, The Story of an African Farm.  Hutchinson & Co., London, no date, but circa 1891 [1883 first edition] A New Edition completing the ninety-fifth thousand. Pp [xv] 346, [vi publisher ads] .Frontispiece shows Olive Schreiner (with tissue guard). Bound in original cloth gilt, with some loss of gilding to the bottom of the spine, but the green cloth otherwise very clean, and a firm binding. Page edges  not trimmed, dusty to the top edge. Minor foxing only, otherwise  clean, and overall in at least Very Good condition. Published originally under the pseudonym “ Ralph Iron”.   Schreiner, a South African, writes about women's lives in a colonial mileu, and she poses questions ideas about gender, politics, race and marriage. She is recognised as a feminist writer, who influenced novels of the 1880’s and 1890’s by writing about females questioning marriage and gender roles.
