COXWELL, Henry. My Life and Balloon Experiences. Second Series. W.H.Allen, London 1889. Pp 283 with 13 illustrations as called for. First edition. 8vo . Blue cloth with gilt illustration as above. Spine darkened, some rubbing and foxing to the endpapers and title page. Firm on the binding, with some weakness to the gutter margin at rear. Ownership inscription of William Collier  Of Oxford. With; two autograph letters by Coxwell to the same William Collier. The first letter, Pp 4 dated Sept 2nd 79 [1879]. “A private balloon ascent, or rather one by private arrangement on a fine day and at an early hour becomes expensive. There is the gas to pay, transit of balloon…to and fro..It really wants a pretty large balloon and about four or five persons at £10 each. I used frequently to have such patrons…..A small balloon merely to take ourselves would cost £15 for the day. I don’t know that I have one which I should care to offer for sale. I should prefer making a new one for that object…..But what I was thinking of was a Continental voyage across the Channel…for such a trip….one would have to pay pretty handsomely.”
The second letter pp 3 dated October 22nd [also 1879],is addressed from Seaford, [Sussex, England]; ‘.” He explains that, because of poor weather, a long trip must be postponed until the next season but “ if you are determined to possess a ballon we must talk that idea over”. Both letters signed “Henry Coxwell”.
