C16th Gilt wood panel depicting the Holy Trinity and the Annunciation. Gilded wood and gesso with original paint. Approx  16 cm x 10.5 cm at tallest and widest points. On the reverse, a modern eyelet and hanging wire have been added. There is wear and some cracking to the surface, mainly to the top part, and the head of the dove in the Trinity image is now lacking. God The Father is pictured holding the globe of the earth, whilst Christ, God the Son is seen with the cross. In the Annunciation image a book, representing the Word of God, rests on a lectern, whilst Mary the Mother of Christ kneels before an angel bearing what we think to be an olive bough. The dove showing the presence of The Holy Spirit, hovers between and above them. The back of the panel reveals its crude construction, with traces of gesso and glue still present. Some restoration to the gilt, but the paint on the figures looks original to us. European, possibly Spanish? We think that this piece would have been used as a portable altar for private devotion.
